The Mike Rosenberg Athletic Memorial Scholarship

Written by Ron Stewart

The Citizens Scholarship Foundation (CSF) Dollars for Scholars announces the new Mike Rosenberg Athletic Memorial Scholarship.

Mike passed away on Feb. 24 while covering a playoff basketball game at Bedford High School. He was a passionate reporter for The Bedford Citizen (and the former Bedford Minuteman) for all things concerning the Bedford community.

He was also recognized as an equally passionate reporter for BHS school athletics. With skill and perception, he reported regularly on team sports and individual athletic accomplishments. He announced the high school football games for many years and the press box at the high school has been named in his honor.

This scholarship, formerly called the Bedford Athletic Association Scholarship, is renamed in Mike's honor and will be awarded to BHS athletes who demonstrate good sportsmanship.

Mike, born in Brooklyn, NY, was raised in Rutland, VT and attended the University of Vermont. Throughout his life, he was a true example of Jewish values, embracing the teachings of Torah with love and reverence.
His commitment to family, friends, the Jewish community, and the people of Bedford was unwavering.

He always strove to live a life of integrity and compassion. He worked for 36 years at Maimonides School in Brookline.

Mike spent most of his adult life in Bedford. The entire town quickly became his family.

He served his community in many ways, including on the School Committee, Select Board, and Bedford Embraces Diversity Committee. But he was also very proud of his 45 years associated with Bedford Dollars for Scholars where he served on the Board in many capacities: Publicity, Assistant Treasurer, Selections, and President.

In 1987, Mike began serving continuously as Master of Ceremonies at Scholarship Awards Night. He had a story or interesting tidbit to share about every award. He was an untiring supporter of each and every student receiving a scholarship.

If a student was accepted at his alma mater, the University of Vermont, Mike tossed out a UVM t-shirt with his warmest congratulations.
