Fourth Annual CSF of Bedford Trivia Night
Spirited fun and friendship dominated the 4th Annual CSF of Bedford Trivia Night on Saturday, March 24 at the Saint Michael Parish Hall, 90 Concord Rd, Bedford, MA. This fun evening of friendly team competition helps to fund scholarships awarded to graduating high school seniors at the May 30, 2018 Awards ceremony at the Bedford Glen Hotel.
Among the competing participants were neighborhoods of family and friends, Selectmen, School Committee members, Town officials, business sponsors, and CSF Board members. Door Prizes from local businesses were awarded and terrific Raffle Baskets added additional excitement.
 
"CSF of Bedford Dollars for Scholars acknowledges the following Bedford businesses for providing door prize gift certificates and strongly encourages your patronages," noted Ron Stewart who listed the sponsors: American Eagle, Art of Flowers by Bonnie, Bedford Car Wash, Bedford Farms, Bedford Florist, Chateau Restaurant, Dunkin' Donuts, Ginger Japanese Restaurant, Holi Indian Restaurant, Ken's NY Deli, Peppers Grill, Red Heat Restaurant, Renzo Salon, Wegmans Supermarket..

CSF Bedford Dollars for Scholars Phone-a-thon a Ringing Success

 

The MITRE Corporation was the site of our 2018 annual phone-a-thon where BHS student callers contacted Bedford and Hanscom community residents who pledged contributions for CSF of Bedford 2018 Scholarships. Households not reached by our callers, will receive donation letters in the mail.

Thank you to all who visited our Booth on Bedford Day and purchased Raffle tickets to win an iRobot Roomba 980 to support the Class of 2018 Scholarships.

We also thank Michael Chen, BHS Class of 2018 President, who selected the winning ticket and congratulate the winner of the Roomba Raffle, Susan Stewart.



CSF of Bedford Dollars for Scholars Awards $120,000 at 52nd Scholarship Awards Ceremony

In its 52nd year, CSF of Bedford Dollars for Scholars awarded more than $120,000 in grants to Bedford graduates at a reception ceremony at the DoubleTree of Bedford Glen Hotel.

The awards are supported by the greater Bedford Community through named and endowed scholarships and through generous donations made during CSF's annual Phone-a-thon.

CSF is most grateful to the DoubleTree Bedford Glen Hotel for hosting the awards ceremony and to Jeff Hoyland for his photos capturing the festivities.

CSF is pleased to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2017 and is proud to endorse each of you in your future endeavors.

3rd Annual CSF of Bedford Trivia Night

Spirited fun and friendship dominated the 3rd Annual CSF of Bedford Trivia Night. This scholarship fund raiser drew from the Bedford Community to compete and raise funds for high school seniors. Among the dedicated supporters of CSF of Bedford Dollars for Scholars were Selectmen, School Committee members, Town Administration, friends and neighbors, businesses, sponsors and CSF Board members all competing in great fun and camaraderie to fund scholarships awarded to high school seniors who pursue higher education. Door Prizes from local businesses were awarded and terrific Raffle Baskets added additional excitement.

Now in its 52nd year, CSF of Bedford Dollars for Scholars has awarded over $2.2 million to almost 3000 students.

CSF of Bedford Dollars for Scholars is a volunteer community organization which provides scholarships to deserving high school graduates who plan to continue their education. It is the local chapter of Dollars for Scholars®, a national program sponsored by Scholarship America. Active in Bedford, MA since 1965, CSF of Bedford Dollars for Scholars has provided over $2 million of scholarship awards to graduating students living in Bedford, MA, on Hanscom Air Force Base, and/or attending Bedford High School. Students are selected by a chapter member committee comprising a cross-section of our community. Scholarships are awarded to students based on academic merit and financial need, and who meet the scholarship criteria.

 



QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS

1. What is CSF of Bedford Dollars for Scholars?

Citizens Scholarship Foundation (CSF) of Bedford Dollars for Scholars is a volunteer community organization which provides scholarships to deserving high school graduates who plan to continue their education. It is the local chapter of Dollars for Scholars®, a national program sponsored by Scholarship America. Dollars for Scholars was founded in 1958 by Dr. Irving Fradkin, an optometrist in Fall River, Massachusetts, and Scholarship America was officially chartered under the name "Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America" on May 15, 1961.  Active since 1965, the Bedford, MA Chapter has awarded over two million dollars in scholarship awards to nearly 3000 students.

2. Who may apply for CSF Scholarships?

Any senior graduating from Bedford High School or any Bedford, MA or Hanscom Air Force Base resident graduating from another secondary school, completing home-schooling, or completing GED requirements may apply, provided the student will be attending a four-year college, two-year college, or technical or vocational school.

3. What are the sources of funds for CSF of Bedford Dollars for Scholars Scholarship Awards?

A major source of funding is the annual phone-a-thon fund drive organized by CSF of Bedford Dollars for Scholars and conducted by student volunteers. Local merchants, industries and professionals also donate directly to the Chapter's annual awards pool. A significant source of funds is the growing number of local scholarships that have been established to honor, or in memory of, an individual. Many of these are endowments that fund permanent scholarships. Money is also raised through a variety of other community activities, such as Bedford Day, Trivia Night and Flatbread Pizza Fundraisers.

4. Who decides on CSF of Bedford Dollars for Scholars Scholarship recipients?

A broad based selections committee of chapter members including local citizens, teachers, and past and present board members meets in the spring to review CSF of Bedford Dollars for Scholars Scholarship applications.

5. What criteria are used for selection?

The Selection Committee follows the guidelines of the national organization and any specific scholarship requirements. CSF of Bedford Dollars for Scholars grants awards on the basis of merit with the amount determined by need. 

6. Does "merit" mean only top-ranked students need apply?

CSF of Bedford Dollars for Scholars seeks to provide financial aid for and recognition to, as large a range of deserving students as possible. "Merit" includes academic, athletic, civic, and community achievements. In past years, many students have been in a good position to receive an award.
